The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) does not currently require foodservice managers or staff to complete a formal allergen awareness training. No, the Georgia DPH does not require anyone in the food industry to earn a certificate of completion for allergen awareness training. However, certified food protection managers must be prepared to answer questions about allergen safety during routine health inspections and to teach their staff about the major food allergens.

The Georgia DPH requires staff to be properly trained in food allergy awareness as it relates to their responsibilities. Staff must be able to describe the nine major food allergens, symptoms of an allergic reaction, and strategies for preventing cross contact.
