The Food Safety Branch within the Hawaii Department of Health does not require managers, persons in charge, or staff to complete an allergen awareness training program. However, a person in charge is responsible for ensuring their staff are properly trained in food safety, which includes allergen awareness.

Is food allergy training required in Hawaii?
No, the Hawaii Food Safety Branch doesn’t require formal allergy training. However, an establishment’s PIC must be able to identify the major food allergens and describe the symptoms of an allergic reaction when asked by the health inspector.
