Illinois Food Allergy Certificate Training
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) requires all certified food protection managers working in foodservice to complete formal food allergy awareness training accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB). Managers are also responsible for ensuring their staff are prepared to navigate serving customers with food allergies.

The State Board of Education, in collaboration with the IDPH, also requires school districts to establish anaphylactic policies that create guidelines for preventing anaphylaxis and procedures for handling a medical emergency resulting from anaphylaxis. Some school personnel may need to complete a course that covers how to prevent and respond to anaphylaxis as well as steps to take to prevent exposure to allergens.

The IDPH does not require grocery stores, daycares, schools, assisted living or long-term care facilities, and Category II or III restaurants to have certified food protection managers complete additional food allergy training. Certain staff at these establishments may still need to complete food allergy training to meet the requirements of other agencies.
