Kentucky Food Protection Manager Certification

The Food Safety Branch within the Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH) requires that every food establishment have at least one certified food protection manager (CFPM) on staff and that a person in charge be present during all hours of operation. Any person in charge who needs to earn their certification must pass an approved exam every five years.

Who needs a food protection manager certification in the state of Kentucky?
Every foodservice establishment must employ at least one CFPM. Currently, the CFPM is not required to be physically present at all times during operation. However, upcoming changes to state regulations will require a CFPM to be present during all hours of operation. These changes are expected to take effect in the summer of 2025.
