The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) does not require foodservice managers or food handlers to complete formal allergen awareness training; however, allergies are on the rise among consumers worldwide. Do I need a food allergy certificate of completion to work in Minnesota?
No, the MDH does not require formal allergy training. However, Certified food protection managers (CFPMs) are responsible for ensuring their establishment follows critical food safety protocols, including those relevant to allergens. Additionally, the MDH advises managers and staff to be familiar with common allergens, the symptoms of allergic reactions, and best practices for handling allergens to prevent cross contact and create safer environments for customers.
