Does North Carolina require food allergy training?
No, North Carolina does not mandate allergen awareness training as part of the state’s food safety requirements. However, food allergies are becoming increasingly more common, and there may be serious consequences if a customer has an allergic reaction in your establishment.
What does the U.S. Food and Drug Administration say about food allergens?
The FDA Food Code, adopted by North Carolina, provides guidelines on allergen controls and ensures managers are equipped to handle allergens safely. Persons in charge must be able to identify major food allergens, describe the symptoms of an allergic reaction, and properly read labels to identify if foods contain major allergens.
