Requirements for Training and Certification

Trust20 is an approved provider of food safety certification in Ohio.
Ohio requires any foodservice operation or retail food establishment to have a designated person in charge present during all hours of operation if they meet certain conditions.
Some establishments may be exempt from these requirements, but you should always verify your requirements with your local jurisdiction.

Ohio does not currently require alcohol server training.
However, in April 2024, legislation was introduced that would result in a new requirement for this type of training. Trust20’s Alcohol Server Training covers the mandatory topics proposed in the bill. We are tracking the progress of OH HB504, also known as Hayden's Law, and will update this page as they become available.
Ohio’s Liquor Control Law (Chapter 4301.253) notes that establishments/employers may receive risk and damages mitigation benefits if they require their staff to complete responsible alcohol server training that includes the rules and regulations governing alcohol service, preventing alcohol service to minors, de-escalation tactics, and instructions for creating a safe evacuation plan in an emergency.
Course Outline
This course is divided into six sections and a final assessment. The assessment consists of 27 questions, divided equally among the learning objectives. While a passing score is not required, the assessment meets Ohio’s requirements for a verbal or written exercise and prepares persons in charge to demonstrate their knowledge to the health inspector.
